Centering Pregnancy
Centering Pregnancy is a model that incorporates facilitated groups that provide patient and family centered healthcare. Clinicians and other healthcare staff are prepared and trained to provide care in the group setting facilitating skill building and enhanced education, as well as peer-to-peer networking and sharing to ensure success.
Groups are established by similar due dates. Centering sessions are comprised around three components of care: assessment, education and support.
This evidenced based method of prenatal care positively demonstrates a reduction in maternal and fetal mortality, reduces preterm birth, reduces child abuse and domestic violence, promotes the development of parenting skills, and improves breastfeeding rates and overall satisfaction with prenatal care.
