Cardiac Surgery Services

Heart surgery remains an effective treatment for many conditions of the heart that cannot be corrected by medication or lifestyle changes to manage heart attack risks. The heart surgeons perform more than 1,000 open-heart procedures annually and have been rated among the top 10 percent in the nation for heart surgery and among the top five percent across the country for coronary angioplasty.

Many of the invasive and minimally invasive procedures performed by Kaleida Health heart surgeons employ the most recent innovations in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiac Surgery Services

• Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) (on and off pump) with endoscopic vein harvesting
• Heart valve repair and replacement
• Transmyocardial laser revascularization
• Repair of adult congenital heart disease
• Pacemaker and defibrillator implants
• Internal cardioverter defibrillator placement

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (whenever possible)

• Sternal sparing CABG surgery via minithoracotomy
• Valve repair or replacement via minithoracotomy
• Beating heart (off pump) CABG surgery

Complex Cardiac Surgery

• Multiple valves
• Aortic dissection
• Maze procedure and pulmonary vein isolation - for atrial fibrillation
• Septal myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
