Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit
Patients who are admitted to the Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are there because they have serious injury or illness that requires more intensive monitoring.
The multidisciplinary team that cares for your loved ones includes a physician, critical care nurses, personal care assistants, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, discharge planning/social work, dietetics, pastoral care, and physical and occupational therapy. The ICU team is a partnership of skilled health care specialists dedicated to your loved one's recovery.
The ICU nurse cares for fewer patients because of the complexity of the patient's needs. Your input into your loved one's recovery is vital because you know them best. Your first experience visiting your loved one can be overwhelming because of all the alarms, wires, tubes and equipment attached to your family member.
Certain restrictions have been put into effect to protect your loved one's well-being. Only two visitors are allowed at the bedside at any time. There is a waiting room right outside of the ICU for visitors to remain close by.
The visiting hours are as follows:
11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Cell phone use is restricted to the lobby due to interruptions with the high tech equipment.
To ensure patient privacy, we request families appoint one spokesperson to communicate with the rest of the family and friends. Upon admission to the intensive care unit, the nursing staff will share the ICU visitation guidelines with the spokesperson so that clear expectations are set and questions can be answered promptly.
