Dermatology

The Department of Pediatric Dermatology at Oishei Childrens Hospital (OCH) is the only center in Western New York specializing in the care of children and adolescents with all forms of congenital and acquired disorders of the skin, hair and nails.

Among the wide range of disorders treated are acne, eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, infections, hair loss, birthmarks, moles, hemangiomas and rare disorders such as epidermolysis bullosa, neurofibromatosis, ectodermal dysplasia, incontinentia pigmenti, tuberous sclerosis and many others.

Pediatric Dermatology is also a core member of the OCH multidisciplinary Vascular Anomalies Center which provides evaluation and treatment for children and adults with congenital malformations of blood vessels and lymph channels as well as some vascular tumors.

Phototherapy

The Department of Pediatric Dermatology provides narrow-band UVB Phototherapy (nbUVB) for our pediatric patients as well as for both children and adults referred for this treatment by other dermatologists. nbUVB phototherapy is a state-of-the-art ultraviolet light therapy used to treat a variety of skin disorders including vitiligo, eczema and psoriasis. Phototherapy works by suppressing abnormal cellular functioning that occurs in various skin disorders, thereby helping to decrease inflammation, reduce itching and improve or clear the skin.

nbUVB Phototherapy is widely utilized internationally as an effective adjunct therapy for many skin conditions.
