PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy - Purpose and Outcomes

Program Purpose

The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program is intended to build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 residency training to contribute to development of clinical pharmacists with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide clinical pharmacy services to critically ill patients. Residents are given the opportunity to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of care to the critically ill patient. Successful completion of this program prepares graduates for advanced patient care, academic or other positions related to the care of critically ill patients, as well as attaining certification as a board certified critical care pharmacist.

Program Objectives

  • Manage and improve the medication-use process in critically ill patients
  • Provide evidence-based, patient-centered comprehensive medication management with interdisciplinary teams in a variety of critical care environments
  • Exercise leadership and practice management skills
  • Demonstrate project and time management skills
  • Provide medication and practice-related education and training
