Kaleida Health Laboratories Receives Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists

Updated: 11/8/2018

Kaleida Health Laboratories received accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.

Accreditation is a team effort and reflects the superior expertise and skill of the laboratory professionals serving Kaleida Health’s patients, physicians, caregivers and outreach clients. CAP inspectors commented on the Kaleida Health laboratory professionals' high level of dedication to quality, commitment to excellence, subject matter expertise and their contribution to transforming the patient's experience.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also reviewed laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. The inspection also served as a forum for exchanging approaches to laboratory best practice between the inspection group and Kaleida Health laboratory professionals.

"Many congratulations to the entire laboratory team for their outstanding work in preparing for this inspection of all our laboratories," said John Tomaszewski, MD, chief of service, pathology and laboratory medicine.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
