Gates Vascular Institute Cardiac Surgery Team Now Ranked in Top 2% in the Country
The Gates Vascular Institute’s (GVI) cardiac surgery team has again achieved a three-star overall composite score, the highest recognition possible from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, in three categories:
- Isolated Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) January 2012-December 2014
- Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) January 2014-December 2014
- AVR + CABG January 2012-December 2014
This recognition puts the GVI in the top 2% in the country.
“This tremendous accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and dedication to excellence of the entire cardiac team at the Gates Vascular Institute,” said Hashmat Ashraf, MD, chief of service, thoracic/cardiovascular surgery. “While this is great news for all of us who work to provide the highest quality of care, the true winners are our patients. This ranking further assures them that the Gates Vascular Institute is the best place to go for cardiac surgery.”
There are 622 institutions that report their participant performance for all three categories-isolated CABG, combined CABG and AVR and isolated AVR- to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and only 12 of them achieved three-stars in all three categories; the Gates Vascular Institute being one of the 12. This is an incredible achievement for the Gates Vascular Institute, as only 2% of institutions achieved a three-star rating in all three categories.
“When the Gates Vascular Institute opened in 2012, our vision was that it would become a hub of innovation, quality and ground-breaking care,” said L. Nelson Hopkins, MD, president, Gates Vascular Institute. “This latest national recognition of our outstanding cardiac program is proof positive that our vision has been realized and choosing the Gates Vascular Institute for care is the best choice a patient can make.”
