Hyundai Hope On Wheels® has awarded Lynda Beaupin, MD, attending physician in the Hematology/Oncology Division at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, with the $75,000 Hyundai Young Investigators Clinical Award for her work on young adults and the long term effects of cancer. Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo has received $765,000 in funding from Hope On Wheels since 2011.

The award was officially presented during the Hope On Wheels signature Handprint Ceremony at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo on August 12. At the ceremony, Buffalo-area children affected by cancer dipped their hands in colorful paint and placed their handprints on a white Hyundai Santa Fe, the official vehicle of Hope On Wheels, to commemorate their brave battles with cancer.

“I am very pleased and honored that Hyundai continues to support our efforts in children’s cancer,” said Dr. Beaupin. “This grant will allow us to focus on our older children, an endeavor that hasn’t been pursued on a national level before.”

Dr. Beaupin will use the funds to introduce the Consortium of Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Centers (CAYACC) and establish a research database to learn more about teenage and young adult cancer patients, their disease, and their psychosocial needs. The project will be led by Dr. Beaupin in Buffalo, but is a multi-institutional effort involving a number of children’s hospitals across the nation.

Hyundai and its dealers joined the fight against pediatric cancer in 1998. Now in its 16th year, Hope On Wheels remains committed to helping children fight this disease through funding life-saving research and innovative treatments. This year, Hope On Wheels will award 13 Hyundai Young Investigators Clinical Awards and 36 Hyundai Scholar Hope Grants totaling $13 million to institutions across the country. In 2014, Hope On Wheels will surpass $86 million in donations to pediatric cancer institutions nationwide since its inception.
