Kandel Named Kaleida Health Corporate Medical Director for Stroke Services

Amit Kandel, MD, MBA, has been named corporate medical director for stroke services at Kaleida Health.
Dr. Kandel is assuming the role following the retirement of Robert Sawyer, Jr., MD.
Board-certified in neurology, vascular neurology and brain injury medicine, Dr. Kandel will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective continuous quality management and practice improvement program for stroke care at all sites that is integrated with the neurology service of Kaleida Health. He will set and monitor standards of performance – such as response to requests for inpatient consultations, stroke team response and follow-up of stroke patients – to assure patient and referring physician satisfaction.
A neurologist and clinical researcher, Dr. Kandel has significant stroke prevention and treatment expertise from both the individual patient and public health perspectives. His broad-based clinical experience in the U.S. and Nepal includes work in trauma centers, comprehensive stroke centers, emergency rooms, acute care/ICU, inpatient, and outpatient settings.
In addition, Dr. Kandel is a clinical associate professor of neurology and neurology clerkship director at the University at Buffalo. He completed his medical school from Nepalgunj Medical College in Nepal, Neurology residency, fellowship in vascular neurology and Executive MBA at the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Kandel will work closely with Adnan Siddiqui, MD, PhD, FAANS, FACS, FAHA, director of neurosurgical stroke services at Kaleida Health.
