Through a highly competitive process, The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation received a $175,000 grant from the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York Blue Fund. The Blue Fund aims to improve health outcomes and increase equal access to care throughout Western New York.
The grant will help implement diversity, equity and inclusion workforce development. This development will help provide more racially equitable care at Oishei Children’s Hospital (OCH), which will improve maternity patient outcomes and create a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
With this grant, OCH will develop roles in partnership with Shannon Bryant, chief diversity and inclusion officer of Kaleida Health, to provide bias-free healthcare.
In addition, the team will work with community partners to address social determinants of health, use patients’ experiences to identify racial gaps, increase data access, implement training to nurses on implicit and explicit bias and diversify the nursing workforce.
