Kaleida Health to Offer COVID-19 PCR Testing for General Public, Effective April 26
Kaleida Health will offer drive-through COVID-19 testing for the general public at its existing testing site located in the former Sears Automotive building at the Walden Galleria Mall, effective Monday, April 26.
The Cheektowaga, NY testing site will utilize polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests overseen by Kaleida Health Laboratories’ New York State-licensed scientists. The testing site will operate Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (closed 12 – 12:30 p.m.) and Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. (closed 12 – 12:30 p.m.)
Kaleida Health’s COVID-19 PCR tests are available without a prescription or referral for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals of all ages. Patients ages 0-17 may access testing with a parent or legal guardian’s consent. Additionally, a parent or legal guardian must be in attendance and bring their photo ID to the testing appointment with the minor.
PCR tests have a 98% accuracy rate and are less likely to indicate a false positive test result compared to rapid antigen tests that have an average accuracy rate of 75%.
“Testing is an essential tool in the battle against COVID-19,” said Keith Hoerth, vice president, Kaleida Health Laboratories. “With the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines ramping up, it’s imperative that getting tested remains a priority in conjunction with other COVID-19 safety prevention methods.”
Patients are required to pre-register online and pre-pay $125 per test with a debit or credit card. (Insurance not accepted). Test results are available in 2-3 days and accessible through the MyKaleida Patient Portal.
