Kaleida Health Once Again Recognized by Human Rights Campaign Foundation as LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader
Kaleida Health has once again been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation as an LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader. The HRC released their 13th annual, "Healthcare Equality Index" report today, which scores healthcare facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning) patients, visitors and employees.
Kaleida Health is once again the only hospital system in Western New York to have earned HRC’s "LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader" designation, receiving the maximum score in each section and earning an overall score of 100.
"Kaleida Health takes pride in providing patients with respectful and compassionate health care, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression," said Danielle Becker, staff attorney for Kaleida Health. "While this year has been difficult with the COVID-19 pandemic, we never lost sight of our mission to advance the health of our community. Our community includes LGBTQ individuals that need high quality health care from providers who know, respect and understand them. We are continually striving to help ensure that members of the LGBTQ community feel safe and welcomed when seeking care at any of our facilities."
HRC President Alphonso David added, "The healthcare facilities participating in the HRC Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) are not only on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are also making it clear from their participation in the HEI that they stand on the side of fairness and are committed to providing inclusive care to their LGBTQ patients."
Kaleida Health has received this designation for the past five years and remains committed to providing affirmative, sensitive and informed health care to the LGBTQ community.
