Maralyn M. Militello, MPA, BSN, RN

Maralyn M. Militello, MPA, BSN, RN, has been appointed senior director of nursing (DON) for Eastern Niagara Hospital (ENH) in Lockport. Militello will be responsible for leadership and oversight for all nursing departments at multiple clinical locations, including ENH’s 2 North and 2 Center medical/surgical units, the emergency department, obstetrics, intensive care unit, surgical services and various other clinical areas of the organization. Her responsibilities will also involve strategic planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall nursing operations in order to achieve clinical excellence and the highest levels of quality and patient satisfaction.

Militello previously served as Kaleida Health’s Chief Quality & Patient Safety Officer at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital (MFSH) and DeGraff Memorial Hospital (DMH). She brings over 30 years of experience to this position. In her previous role with Kaleida, she made numerous noteworthy accomplishments and established various best practices for patient outcomes. She helped the facilities restructure system and hospital site quality and safety structure to obtain greater efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability. Her optimization of department resources and improvements in quality and safety initiatives helped the Kaleida facilities significantly increase clinical excellence across the organization.

“We are excited to have someone of Maralyn Militello’s caliber join ENH and lead our nursing departments," said Anne McCaffrey, ENH President and Chief Executive Officer. "Her vast knowledge, expertise and outstanding commitment will, without doubt, lead our nursing departments in delivering the highest levels of patient care. She is highly respected and it’s our privilege to welcome her to all of our facilities. We have many positive things happening at ENH, as we develop services, further engage with the community and make plans to construct our new Emergency Department. One of Maralyn’s priorities will be overseeing the implementation of Kaleida Health standards of care here at ENH. I’m so pleased that she will be a part of our efforts going forward.”

Prior to her service at MFSH and DMH, Militello held the positions of director of performance improvement at Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Virginia and director of performance improvement and patient safety at Chesapeake General Hospital. Additionally, Miletello has held positions as a quality improvement nurse, clinical practice specialist, critical care specialist and staff/charge nurse. She has also maintained faculty positions with several colleges throughout the country. Since 2014, she has been the regional president of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders (NYONEL).

“Our ability to recruit and hire Maralyn is further testament to our renewed focus in ensuring that the highest quality of care is delivered here in our community," said McCaffrey.

Militello earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from SUNY at Buffalo and a Masters in Public Administration with a Focus in HealthCare Administration from Troy State University. She said, “I am honored to work with the exceptional staff at ENH and look forward to leading our nursing team in delivering quality, personalized care to every patient with the highest standard of nursing care and patient safety.”

She begins her position at ENH in January of 2019.
