Oishei Children’s Hospital Trauma Center Receives American College of Surgeons Verification
The pediatric trauma center at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital has been verified as a Level I Trauma Center through 2020 by the American College of Surgeons. This outstanding achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. Oishei Children's Hospital is one of only six pediatric Level I Trauma Centers in New York State and the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center west of Syracuse.
“We have an extraordinary pediatric trauma team here at Oishei Children’s Hospital and their commitment to the injured children of our community was evident during the move from Bryant Street and throughout the review process,” said Kathryn D. Bass, MD, Director of Trauma, Oishei Children’s Hospital. “Our pediatric team is a critical part of the Western New York trauma system, educating the community on injury prevention and saving the lives of kids and adolescents each and every day. I am proud to be part of Kaleida Health, which extends its fullest resources for the children of our community. Congratulations to our front line pediatric trauma providers, the highly skilled pediatric transport team, our Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief and lead Kaleida Health administrators, whose commitment has resulted in the highest quality care for our community’s kids and families.”
The ACS Level I pediatric trauma center at the new Oishei Children’s Hospital serves the entire western region of New York State and is the only center of its kind west of Syracuse. Since opening in November 2017, Oishei Children’s Hospital has treated over 60 pediatric trauma patients, including those transported from hospitals in Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties as well as northern Pennsylvania.
“The pediatric trauma team at Oishei Children’s Hospital works tirelessly day in and day out to provide the highest quality care for our patients,” said Allegra C. Jaros, MBA, President, Oishei Children’s Hospital. “Their caliber of expertise and skill is second to none, and this recognition of their efforts is well deserved. I am so proud of the pediatric trauma care we provide to the communities we serve. I have the utmost confidence in our multi-disciplinary pediatric trauma team at Oishei Children’s Hospital, and their focus to continue the excellence in trauma care for children across the western region.”
Congratulations to the trauma and transport teams for their hard work and dedication!
