Gates Vascular Institute, in partnership with the Jacobs Institute and a medical device company, today broadcast a live case to Japan and South Korea, reaching over 150 physicians and health care professionals. The virtual proctorship broadcast, led by electrophysiologist, Chee Kim, M.D., F.A.C.C., was a step-by-step demonstration of cardiac resynchronization therapy, in which a small pacemaker device was inserted to restore the normal timing pattern of the patient’s heartbeat.

The structural heart team at Gates Vascular Institute recently completed their 2,000th transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure, a significant innovation that has shifted valve replacement from operating room to catheterization lab, dramatically reducing procedure and recovery times as well as mortality risk for thousands of patients with heart valve disease.
