About Electrophysiology
What Is Electrophysiology?
Electrophysiology, or “EP,” is a branch of cardiology that focuses on your heart’s electrical system — the signals that tell your heart when to beat. When those signals don’t work properly, you may experience:
- A racing heartbeat (tachycardia)
- A slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
- Skipped beats or fluttering sensations
- Fainting spells or feeling lightheaded
Our team uses advanced testing to discover the cause of your symptoms and create a personalized plan to get your heart rhythm back on track.
How We Can Help
Our GVI electrophysiology specialists offer today’s most advanced range of diagnostic tests and treatments, including:
- Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
- Holter or event monitors to track your heartbeat at home
- Electrophysiology studies (EP studies) to pinpoint rhythm problems
- Oral medication and non-invasive therapies
- Pulsed-Field Ablation, a groundbreaking new procedure that has dramatically improved success rates in patients with atrial fibrillation
- Device implantation, including:
- Pacemaker implants
- Cardiac defibrillator implants
- Loop recorder implants
- The WATCHMAN™ Implant
Most of our EP procedures are minimally invasive, meaning faster recovery and less downtime.
