Gastroenterology (Digestive Diseases and Nutrition)

As an American Board of Pediatrics recognized sub-specialty, Gastroenterology is part of UBMD Pediatrics and affiliated with the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. A qualified and diverse staff provides evaluation and diagnosis for infants, children and adolescents with diseases involving the gastrointestinal tract and/or liver, as well as nutrition support services.

The division specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of nutritional problems, gastrointestinal problems, including inflammatory bowel disease, reflux disease, diarrhea, constipation and peptic diseases and liver diseases, including hepatitis B and C, autoimmune hepatitis, metabolic liver diseases, preparation for transplant and follow up after transplant.

Digestive Diseases and Nutrition Center

Providing pediatric gastroenterology services and procedures on an outpatient basis, including:

  • 24 pH impedance
  • Anorectal Manometry
  • Capsule Endoscopy
  • Colonoscopy and Preps
  • Esophageal Manometry
  • Liver Biopsy
  • Percutaneous Gastrostomytube placement and management
  • Rectal Suction Biopsy
  • Upper Endoscopy

Gastroenterology Laboratory (Special Services)

Full service GI laboratory. Testing includes the following: Disaccharidase determination; Pancreatic enzyme determinations (pancreatic insufficiency); fecal alpha- 1 antiprypsin analysis (protein-losing enteropathy); Endomysial antibody with tier (serum test for celiac disease); Anti- neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (P-ANCA and C-ANCA); H. Pylori antibody testing (ELISA method); H. Pylori (CLOTEST); and Hydrogen breath testing for lactose intolerance and/or bacterial overgrowth.
