Our patient care area is divided into four distinct sections-or pods:

Within each pod, there is a dedicated team of clinicians whose area of expertise is that particular pod’s specialty.
About the Emergency Department
The Buffalo General Medical Center Emergency Department is located in the Gates Vascular Institute and can be accessed from East North Street. It has 53 private exam rooms in 37,400 square feet of space, and treats approximately 64,000 patients annually.
Board-certified emergency room physicians and specialized nurses and other allied health professionals care for patients in four distinct areas-or pods-within the emergency department. This ensures that patients who fall under specific medical categories are treated by medical teams who specialize in that category of care.
The emergency department is also home to our certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, which treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in New York State.
