Levels of Stroke Rehabilitation

Stroke rehabilitation will take several weeks or months and recovery may continue even longer. The degree of recovery will vary depending on the location and severity of the stroke. There is a lot that rehabilitation can accomplish, and while not all stroke survivors may be “cured” of all deficits, quality of life can be improved.
Acute Rehabilitation
Acute rehabilitation is performed in a short-stay rehabilitation facility. While there, the patient receives aggressive therapy to maximize recovery.
- Therapists visit the patient five or more days a week
- Three or more hours of therapy daily
- Five or more days per week of therapy
- Ability to tolerate intensive therapy
