Colorectal Surgery

Hundreds of colorectal surgeries and procedures are performed each year at the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Minimally invasive, or laparoscopic surgery, is a technique that utilizes a few, very small incisions, through which a small camera and instruments are inserted to perform the surgery.

Another form of minimally invasive surgery is robotic surgery, which provides far greater precision, flexibility and control than a human hand.

There are many benefits to minimally invasive surgery such as: less pain, reduced risk of infection and generally shorter recovery time than a traditional open surgery.

While many surgeries are performed laparoscopically, an open surgery may be the preferred option- depending on the unique factors of the condition.

Our team is highly specialized in diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and conditions including:

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis
  • Diverticulitis
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Anorectal diseases (hemorrhoids, fistulas, etc.)

 Common procedures are:

  • Bowel Resection/Stricturoplasty
  • Rectal surgery with and without permanent colostomy/ colonic pouch (for rectal cancer)
  • Stomas (Ileostomy, colostomy)
  • Surgery for chronic constipation
