The Division of Infectious Diseases at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo is part of UBMD Pediatrics and affiliated with the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This Division consists of three pediatric infectious disease specialists, Howard Faden, MD, Mark Hicar, MD, PhD, and Shamim Islam, MD, DTM&H, who are available to help manage the complete spectrum of infectious diseases common to children of all ages.
Patients receive diagnosis and management of acute and chronic infectious diseases. The Division works with Home Services to manage patients on home antibiotic therapy. Division members have particular expertise in respiratory infections, ear infections, unexplained prolonged fevers, Kawasaki disease and diseases acquired from international travel.
The Division has a special testing in evaluating patients with symptoms of Lyme disease and recurrent MRSA skin infections.
