Ambulatory Surgery

The Ambulatory Surgery outpatient department offers surgical procedures that require anesthesia or respiratory assistance but do not require an overnight stay.  The staff is dedicated to providing a calming environment in which patients can feel free to ask questions, share concerns or fears, and be reassured that they are in the most capable hands.

What to Expect

Upon arrival, patients will be prepared for surgery, which includes changing into a gown, being prepared for anesthesia, and speaking with the surgeon, among other things.  Surgeries are performed in state-of-the-art operating suites by specialized operating room staff.

Comfortable, relaxing waiting rooms for patients' loved ones are available. Electronic white boards are used to keep loved ones up-to-date on patients' progress, showing when the patient is waiting to go to the surgical suite, when the surgery is in progress and when the patient has been moved to recovery.  After surgery, the surgeon will come to the waiting room to speak with the loved ones to update them on the surgery, the patient's condition and answer any questions they may have.

In the recovery room, the nursing staff will monitor the patient's vital signs and recovery from anesthesia.  Once the patient has recovered sufficiently and depending on the condition of the patient, loved ones will be allowed into recovery to be with the patient until discharge.
