Designated Stroke Center
Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is proud to be a New York State Department of Health Designated Stroke Center. The Stroke Center initiative was set forth by the state to expedite and improve the quality of care for individuals suffering a stroke. This care is governed by strict guidelines and treatment protocols, which begin with emergency medical service providers and continue through patients’ entire hospital stay, including discharge.
The Stroke Center at Millard Fillmore Suburban provides immediate stroke care by staff directly linked to the only comprehensive stroke care center in Western New York, the Gates Vascular Institute. Because time is a critical factor in the treatment and recovery of strokes, this relationship allows enhanced consultation and diagnosis to be provided for patients at Suburban from the region’s leading neurologists and neurosurgeons.
The clinicians on the stroke care team at Millard Fillmore Suburban have undergone specialized training in stroke, which includes identification of the appropriate level of care directed by neurologists and neurosurgeons. When necessary, an expeditious transfer to the Gates Vascular Institute can be implemented in a seamless manner.
