  Urology: Overview

The Department of Pediatric Urology provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of children’s health care problems related to the urinary and reproductive tracts. These include such conditions as urinary tract infections, vesicoureteral reflux, bed-wetting (enuresis), undescended testicles, hydronephrosis, hypospadias, hydrocele, hernia, varicocele, testicular torsion, kidney, bladder and genital anomalies, neurogenic bladder, malignancies of the kidney, bladder, and testicles, and complex urinary reconstruction.

The department's two Pediatric Urologists are fellowship trained in Pediatric Urology. They are certified by the American Board of Urology, Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Urology, and the Society of Pediatric Urology. Patient care is also enhanced by our full time Urology Nurse.

Pediatric Urology is the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired urological conditions and diseases in children. Pediatric urologists treat conditions of the male reproductive tract and the male and female urinary tracts. There is a urodynamic laboratory for the investigation of complex voiding disorders and neurogenic bladder. Biofeedback therapy is also available, when appropriate, for the treatment of voiding dysfunction.

CUPID: Center for Urinary Pediatric Incontinence Disorders.  The Pediatric Urology Department has an interdisciplinary team dealing with urinary incontinence in children. This team consists of the physicians, nurse practitioners, and a nurse specialist who performs urodynamics testing and biofeedback therapy. Services also include a video-urodynamic laboratory, flow rate, and post-void residual analysis, when appropriate.
