Pediatrics - General/Primary Care
Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo is dedicated to providing children with access to high quality primary medical care. It is for this reason that it operates two pediatric practices in Buffalo - Hodge Pediatrics and Towne Garden Pediatrics. Both locations are currently accepting new patients and most insurances are accepted. Each practice is staffed by a team of highly qualified physicians and nurse practitioners. All physicians are faculty members at the University at Buffalo. Also participating in patient care are pediatric residents and medical students.
To help your child stay healthy, the practices follow the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines for routine health visits and vaccinations. Your child should be seen for check-ups at the following ages:
- 3-5 days old
- 1 month old
- 2 months old
- 4 months old
- 6 months old
- 9 months old
- 12 months old
- 15 months old
- 18 months old
- 2 years old
- 2 1/2 years old
- every year starting at 3 years old
Your doctor may ask you to come in more frequently if your child has any medical problems.
At each visit, your doctor will examine your child, evaluate your child's growth and development, and review with you the need for any immunizations, lead screening and other tests as necessary. You and your doctor will also discuss your child's safety, nutrition, behavior and any other topics of concern.
Specialty Consultative Services
Our pediatricians offer referrals to the specialist of your choice.
All sites offer same-day appointments during office hours for children who are sick.
For urgent issues that occur after hours or on weekends and cannot wait until the next business day, a physician is available for phone advice.
Evening hours are available at each site.
Our providers are engaged in acquiring Patient Centered Medical Home accreditation. This means our practice will be your Medical Home, accountable for meeting the large majority of each patient's physical and mental health care needs, including prevention and wellness, acute care and chronic care. In a Medical Home, your care requires a team of care providers. This team might include physicians and/or residents, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers, educators and care coordinators.
Your Medical Home provides primary health care that is relationship-based with focus on the whole person. We partner with our patients and their families to acquire an understanding and respect of each patient's unique needs, culture, values and preferences. We actively support and invite you to participate in all aspects of your or your child's care.
As your Medical Home, we will also help you find needed information and resources, such as information about:
- Pediatric specialists
- Health conditions/latest treatments
- Home care, equipment and vendors
- Support and respite services for your family
- Other key local services
