Cardiac Device Management
Leon Levinski, MD
Because the heart has an internal electrical system that controls the rhythm of the heart, devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators (ICDs) and other cardiac resynchronization devices can be used to ensure a person’s heart rate remains normal. An ICD contains a pacemaker to manage the heart’s rhythm and a defibrillator which can shock the heart when it is beating at a dangerously fast rate to restore a more normal rhythm.
The Cardiac Device Management department provides follow-up care for patients with implanted pacemakers, defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization devices.
Complex Valve Clinic
Vijay Iyer, MD
The Complex Valve Clinic provides diagnostic services and a wide range of medical, percutaneous and surgical options for the treatment of valve disorders/disease.
One of the newest and most exciting new valve procedures used to treat aortic stenosis is called transcatheter aortic valve replacement or TAVR. This exciting procedure provides an option to patients previously deemed inoperable.
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure, in which an artificial aortic heart valve is attached to a wire frame and guided through the femoral artery by catheter or directly through the chest, to the heart. Once in place, the wire frame enlarges, which allows the new valve to pump the blood appropriately.
Patients must meet a specific set of criteria to be eligible for TAVR.

Heart Failure Center
Susan Graham, MD
The term "heart failure" is used when the heart is unable to pump enough blood. Nearly 6 million Americans suffer from heart failure, which can not only impact one's quality of life, it can limit the length of life. Identifying patients who are either at risk or in the earliest stages of heart failure provides the greatest opportunity for limiting further damage.
The Heart Failure Center is dedicated to diagnosing heart failure and counseling patients about medication, diet modification and other lifestyle changes that can improve their condition.
Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic
William Gibbons, MD
The Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of patients with pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the heart and lungs). The goal of treatment is to either slow the progress of the condition or sometimes even reverse heart and lung damage.
Syncope Consultation & Tilt Table Testing
Donald Switzer, MD
Syncope is the temporary loss of consciousness, often described as fainting or passing out. While there can be many causes, it most often occurs when blood pressure is too low and the heart rate doesn't pump enough oxygen to the brain.
Syncope is a common condition that affects men and women of all ages-with and without heart problems.
Diagnostic testing will determine if syncope is due to heart issues.
