Quality and Patient Safety

A mortality ratio compares the actual deaths that occur versus the expected deaths. The expected mortality is the predicted number of deaths in the hospital based on the health conditions of patients. The observed mortality is the actual number of deaths in the hospital.

The graph shows that WCHOB’s mortality rate remains low. For every quarter in the last year, the observed deaths were less than what was expected. A lower mortality rate is better.
