KALEIDA HELPS MAKE IT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR HIGH SCHOOL PROM

2004

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Monday, April 5, 2004) - Kaleida Health employees are going the extra mile this week to ensure a special prom night for students at Grover Cleveland High School.

With the school’s annual event less than two weeks away, Kaleida employee and education counselor Carolyn Manz, is leading the charge to ensure that all girls have prom dresses and matching accessories for the big night.

After learning that some of the students might miss the event because they may not have the means to acquire the night’s evening attire, Manz took it upon herself to help out.

“It was the right thing to do,” said Ms. Manz, a 10 year Kaleida employee who is assigned to the health clinic at Grover Cleveland. “Your prom is one of the only nights that you will remember for the rest of your life. I want these students to enjoy one of high school’s biggest moments, no matter what the obstacles are.”

Manz, who was assisted by another school based case manager, Colleen Johnson from Buffalo Adolescent Pregnancy Program, contacted several co-workers for assistance. The response was overwhelming.

To date, she has received over 50 gowns – 25 of which are spoken for by students – as well as offers to help with dry cleaning or alterations. Matching shoes and accessories from various Kaleida sites have poured in as well.

“The generosity of Kaleida employees and community organizations will make it possible for many of our students to attend the prom,” said principal Benjamin Randle. “These donations highlight the unique relationships with Kaleida Health and Grover Cleveland High School.”

The Grover Cleveland High School prom is Saturday May 15th and will be held at the Buffalo Convention Center. Kaleida Health operates 13 school based health clinics in the City of Buffalo schools.
