KALEIDA HEALTH'S NEW CEO APPOINTS CHIEF OF STAFF 2002 BUFFALO, NY, Feb. 14, 2002 - Bill McGuire, Kaleida Health's new president and chief executive, today announced the appointment of Kathleen Galvin as the health system's chief of staff. In this new position, Ms. Galvin will be responsible for managing the implementation of Kaleida's strategic initiatives, including operational improvement recommendations that have been approved by Kaleida's Board of Directors. Ms. Galvin will begin her new position on Monday, Feb. 18. "Key to immediately beginning the implementation of our strategic initiatives, Kathleen Galvin brings to Buffalo and Kaleida more than 25 years of experience and a successful track record in hospital and health system turnarounds," said Bill McGuire, Kaleida's president and CEO. "Kathleen's experience in restructuring efforts and strategic planning in similar situations will help us to expedite the process of change necessary to advance medicine and quality of care while we improve our operational and financial performance."
Ms. Galvin joins Kaleida from Pitts Management Associates, one of the largest
privately-owned health care consulting firms in the country, where she is a
senior vice president specializing in hospital turnarounds. Previously, she was
chief operating officer for the Catholic Medical Centers (CMC) of Brooklyn &
Queens where she assisted Mr. McGuire in the financial turnaround of that
organization. At CMC, Ms. Galvin is credited with implementing its
organizational realignment and creating a level of accountability and structure
for each hospital in the system.
