Bereavement Programs

Families Growing Through Grief Support Groups: Coping with the Death of a Child

The groups, which meet on Wednesday, March 14 from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. at First Trinity Lutheran Church, 1570 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda include: Childhood Loss: Coping with the Death of a Sibling Support Group (for ages 4-15), Parents Growing Through Grief Support Group, and Extended Family Grief Support Group. Sudden Death: Coping When a Child Dies

Rebuilding Life After a Violent Death

Support group for families who have lost a loved one to murder. Meets Tuesday, March 6 at 5 p.m. at the American Red Cross, 786 Delaware Avenue. Call 878-7773 for reservations.

Discovering New Life After a Child’s Death: Support for Parents.

Teen/Young Adult Support Group: Coping with the Loss of a Sibling

SHARE Support Group

Enables families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or early infant death to come together with others to share memories, grief and hope. The group meets on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway. Call

The Journey of the Next Pregnancy Support Group

Allows families who have lost a baby and are expecting a baby again to come together with others who have experienced the same grief and share ways of coping, bonding with their new baby, and controlling this experience in a positive way. The group meets Tuesday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Cancer Care Center, 1540 Maple Road, Williamsville. For more information call 568-6653.

Stillborn and Newborn Death Support Group

Enables families who have experienced the loss of a baby through stillbirth or newborn death to

come together with others to share memories, grief and hope. The group meets on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Ministry Building, Room 4, 100 St. Gregory Court, Williamsville. Call 568-6653 for more information.

Smoking Cessation

Use of the Nicotine Patch and/or Zyban as an Aid to Smoking Cessation

For individuals considering or already using the Nicotine Patch and/or Zyban to stop smoking. Discussion of the psychological, physical and behavioral aspects of nicotine addiction and coping strategies while trying to quit. Prenatal Care

Bed & Breakfast Childbirth Prep Getaway Weekend.

Designed for first-time parents as well as those who need a "refresher" class along with a relaxing weekend. Moms In Motion

Prenatal and postpartum exercise for expectant mothers interested in a safe fitness regime for themselves and in health benefits for their babies. Taught by licensed therapists and following American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines. Prepared Childbirth Classes

This four or six week series covers the basic anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, comfort measures to take during pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care, Cesarean delivery, and a review of breathing and relaxation techniques. Senior Services

Caregiver Support Group

Informal discussion of concerns caregivers may have regarding caregiving responsibilities. Tips and suggestions will be shared that will offer support and assistance to those who are facing difficult caregiving situations. Senior Housing Series

The McLaughlin Center for Senior Wellness at DeGraff Memorial Hospital is conducting a series on senior housing at the DeGraff Community Center, 139 Division St. in North Tonawanda. On Thursday March 15, Rosemary Young, Administrator at Eden Heights, will speak on "Assisted Living Opportunities for Seniors," which will address assisted living options, financial concerns, and decision making. This is a dinner program and there is a fee. Call 690-2271 by Monday, March 12 for reservations.

Sickle Cell Support Group

CPAP Support Group

Emotional assistance and education for persons wearing CPAP as treatment for sleep apnea, and their support persons. Tuesday, March 13, 7 – 9 p.m., Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital, 3 Gates Circle. Call Mary Kennedy at 859-1890 for more information.

Safe Sitter

Medically accurate, hands-on program that teaches boys and girls, ages 11-13, how to handle emergencies while caring for children. Safe Sitters learn what to do when a child chokes or stops breathing, baby-sitting business skills, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, and basic child care skills. Classes are being held on Saturday, Match 3 and Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the DeGraff Community Center, 139 Division St., N. Tonawanda. A $ 30.00 fee covers the 12- hour program.
