Walter, Santa Deliver Toys to Children at WCHOB
Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) delivered hundreds of donated toys to the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo on July 24, concluding his annual Christmas in July Toy Drive. Walter was joined by several eager volunteers, including a special visit from Santa Claus, to help distribute the gifts. Throughout the summer, Walter and his staff collected donations of new toys for children at the hospital. Walter said this year’s toy drive garnered an overwhelming amount of community support, resulting in an incredible event that brought smiles to the faces of many patients.
“It’s heartwarming to see joy on the faces of so many of our local children braving an illness,” said Walter. “The happiness and holiday cheer we’ve been able to bring these kids were only possible because of the unwavering generosity of people in our community. I want to thank the many individuals and organizations who joined together and made this year’s toy drive such a success. It is times like these that make me proud to have chosen to build a life and raise a family here in Western New York.”
Walter thanked the hundreds of residents, businesses, churches, and organizations that came together and dropped off toys at various locations across Western New York. Presents were given to each patient and more will be distributed throughout the year. Walter extended a special thanks to the Western New York Funeral Directors Association for the group’s generous contribution. Its annual golf outing to benefit the hospital was a huge success, bringing in $6,500 in donations to the Christmas in July Toy Drive.
“Once again the Western NY Funeral Directors Golf Outing is proud to be a supporter of the Christmas in July Toy Drive. Chairman of the Outing and Funeral Director at the Wood Funeral Home in East Aurora, Jack Attfield, was proud to announce, "In our 5th year we have set a record and reached our goal of raising $10,000.00 and have added a few more charities this year which are close to our hearts, the Lucky Fin Project and the Children's Tumor Foundation. It's a wonderful thing whenever you can help brighten a child's day. We thank Assemblyman Ray Walter for once again leading the drive, Capt. Jack, and Snow and our character friends for visiting the hospital with us to deliver the toys, our sponsors and partners across the area who made it all possible and last but certainly not least, everyone who came out to our outing to make it the huge success it was. We will continue to partner with Assemblyman Walter to make Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo a little merrier every July!”
“We and our patients look forward to this Christmas in July Toy Drive each year,” said McKenzie Mattison, Manager of Volunteer & Family Services at the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. “Not only do the gifts provide joy and entertainment, but they also aid in healing by engaging the patients’ senses and distracting them from their surroundings. We cannot thank the community enough for its support of this initiative.”
