Assemblyman Ray Walter Kicks Off 6th Annual Christmas in July Toy Drive

Released: 6/26/2017

Representatives of Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo joined Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I – Amherst) at a press conference to celebrate the start of this year’s Christmas in July Toy Drive on Monday, June 26. The charitable endeavor, currently in its sixth year, offers Western New Yorkers the opportunity to channel the holiday spirit over the next several weeks, with all donations going directly to children struggling with illness.

Spirits were high at Monday’s conference, which was held at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, as Assemblyman Walter officially began this year’s Christmas in July event. Assemblyman Walter took the opportunity to thank the president and staff of the hospital, especially the staff in the Child Life department, for the life saving services they provide each day. Child Life Specialist Sue Mirabella and local partner Jack Attfield of the Funeral Directors Association, whose annual WNY Funeral Directors Golf Outing has collected hundreds of donations in support of the toy drive in recent years, were also on hand for the festivities.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted at Walter’s District Office in Williamsville, as well as at a number of other local locations through July 20.

“Although the holiday season is still several months away, I am always impressed by our community’s generous outpouring of support during our annual Christmas in July Toy Drive,” said Walter. “This celebration is truly about coming together to make a difference for the children, and it’s been such a rewarding experience to watch this event continue to grow and thrive thanks to all of your support. I am confident that, with your help, we can make this year’s drive the most successful one yet.”
