WCHOB Celebrates EMS Week with the Unveiling of Custom Ambulance
Longstanding Kaleida Health partner American Medical Response (AMR) – the country’s leading provider of medical transportation – this week unveiled a specialized ambulance for the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo designed to service the pediatric transport team.
Wrapped from bumper to bumper with graphics announcing the upcoming move of the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo to the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, the ambulance is outfitted specifically for transporting infants and children.
Transporting patients as young as two-weeks old, the brand-new 2017 pediatric transport team’s ambulance is the first of AMR’s Western New York fleet of more than 96 ambulances to feature a ceiling mounted DVD player for patient comfort. Additional features of the Ford E450 CCTU ambulance include a 1300 lb. rear mounted hydraulic lift system for loading patients and specialty medical equipment conveniently at the same time, along with a 3000 watt inverter to power equipment and accessories on-board with 110 volts of A/C electricity needed to care for the highest risk pediatric patient.
“We’ve worked closely with the team at the Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo to ensure we designed the ambulance to meet the specific needs of our community – both now and in future,” said Scott Karaszewski, AMR’s Chief EMS Officer.
Additionally, AMR is contracted to provide 15 ambulances to transport all patients on “Move Day” in November from the existing location on Bryant Street to the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital downtown.
“AMR has been a valued partner of Kaleida for over four decades,” said CEO Jody Lomeo. “We are confident in our ability to work together to deliver quality care and a seamless transition for our patients on the day of the move.”
The announcement comes as part of AMR’s National EMS Week celebrations across the country.
