Kaleida Health Laboratories Receive CAP Accreditation

Updated: 4/17/2014

Kaleida Health Laboratories received accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.

Accreditation is a team effort and reflects the superior expertise and skill of the laboratory professionals serving Kaleida Health’s patients, physicians, caregivers and outreach clients. The CAP congratulated Kaleida Health Laboratories for the staff’s “continued commitment to the excellence of services being provided.”

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also reviewed laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which began in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. The program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation also serves as a forum for exchanging laboratory best practices and provides additional educational benefit to the entire healthcare team.

The CAP is a medical society that serves more than 17,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world. It is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely recognized as the leader in laboratory quality assurance. The CAP is an advocate for high quality and cost-effective patient care.
