Volunteer “Elves” Create Handmade Gingerbread Houses for the Annual Festival of Trees

The 36th annual Festival of Trees, open to the public with no cost for general admission November 24 through December 5 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Buffalo, NY, will ring-in in the holiday season for Western New York.
Organized and designed by teams of volunteers, the Festival of Trees is home to a glittering display of beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, mantle and window displays available for purchase and then delivery to your home or office.
“This year’s Festival of Trees is a unique opportunity to enjoy the creative renditions of the Glittering Forest. Just as it is our goal to give each family that walks through the doors of Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo a place of hope and comfort, we hope you will bask in the holiday splendor of our creative designers, said Kim and Pete Augustine, Chairpersons of the 36th annual Festival of Trees.
Also throughout the nearly two-week Festival, a Walkway of Miracles will showcase stories and images of patients who have or are receiving care at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo along with a 10-foot high, holiday tree adorned with hundreds of ornaments hand-painted by them.
A holiday boutique will be filled with home décor, gifts, hand-crafted ornaments and more, including personal-sized, one-of-a-kind gingerbread houses each created with different themes by volunteer designers.
Chefs at the Hyatt Regency Hotel will again create a two-story Gingerbread House including a Ginger Bar with Starbucks coffees and other treats.
The Festival of Trees also features several special events, including the Gala on Saturday, November 23, the Designer Showcase Reception & Awards on Tuesday, November 26, the Stone’s Buddies Luncheon on Sunday, December 1 and the Ladies Holiday Luncheon on Tuesday, December 3.
Throughout the history of the Festival of Trees, more than $6 million has been raised to benefit Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in support of important programs, facility improvements and groundbreaking technology. This year, all funds raised will benefit the physician-led plan to construct the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital to be located in the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
