Holt Named Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Orthopedic & Spine Center

Updated: 6/5/2013

Jeffrey Jude Holt has been named chief operating officer of the new Advanced Orthopedic & Spine Center at Buffalo General Medical Center (BGMC).

In this role, Holt will provide executive administrative leadership to patient care and service delivery areas focused on orthopedic patients, including oversight of staff, physician satisfaction, budget, planning and quality.

Holt's role supports BGMC's strategic realignment of the administrative leadership team structure into three divisions: Gates Vascular Institute, orthopedics, now called Advanced Orthopedic & Spine Center, and core services at BGMC, to include the emergency department, medical/surgical/critical care and others.

Holt has a comprehensive and diverse healthcare leadership background. He spent much of his career at New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center as cardiology divisional administrator, where he oversaw 172 cardiologists, 120 staff members, and controlled a $54 million budget.

While at NYU, he increased clinical and philanthropic revenue by $20 million, recruited 20 new cardiologists, and four large physician groups to strategically align clinical services and resources. Under Holt's leadership, New York University Langone Medical Center was ranked 15th in U.S. News Best Hospitals for Cardiology and Heart Surgery.

Most recently, Holt was corporate director of the neurosciences and behavioral health service lines, inclusive of orthopedics, at Meridian Health, a five hospital network in New Jersey. As corporate director, he oversaw and implemented system-wide programs for spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and neurosurgery. In addition, he developed a variety of programs for the management of epilepsy, concussion, memory disorders, MS, and sleep medicine, and planned strategic programmatic growth, physician recruitment, and physician alignment to grow market share and volume.

"Jeff's wide ranging skills are a perfect fit for this exciting new position," said Cheryl Klass, senior vice president of operations at BGMC and president of Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo. "He has considerable skill in strategic business planning and program enhancement, progressive experience in quality management, and a keen focus on revenue optimization and market share growth, which are all skills vital to making the Advanced Orthopedic & Spine Center a success."

Holt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a Master in Public Administration, Healthcare Management and Policy Analysis, Wagner School of Public Service, New York University.

He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Medical Group Management Association and Administrators of Internal Medicine.
