Fisher-Price and Mattel Pledge $3 Million for a Family and Child Resource Center
This 6,000-square-foot Family & ChildResourceCenter will be respite area for patients and their families located on the fifth floor of the new hospital. This center will have a computer and video game area, family consult rooms, play areas staffed by Child Life Specialists and artists in residence, meditation areas, access to a winter garden and a place to visit for members of Stone’s Buddies, a network of support for chronically ill children and their families.
Fisher-Price and Mattel will also design toy storage compartments for play areas on all the new hospital floors, as well as branded animal sculptures for an outdoor garden.
This donation by Fisher-Price and Mattel allows the $40 million fundraising campaign for the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital to reach $26.5 million in pledges to date.
“Our relationship with Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo is very special; we share so many deep and important values,” said David Allmark, Executive Vice President of Fisher-Price Global Brands. “Over the years and through collaborations large and small, both Fisher-Price and Mattel have been happy to support the mission of children’s hospitals around the globe, especially our local Buffalo families in their time of unique need.”
In 2010, Fisher-Price refreshed the Women & Children’s Hospital lobby with a new color scheme, images, mural and a video wall. In addition, Fisher-Price has supported Women & Children’s Hospital for more than 25 years through baby gear and toy donations, as well as a tree donation to the annual “Festival of Trees” fundraiser, resulting in some of the highest auction bids in the fundraiser’s history.
The vision for the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital is to be recognized as the innovator, the highest quality, highest value provider and partner, and the regional referral center for women and children’s care for Kaleida Health, in Western New York and beyond. Plans for the 12-floor hospital include a facility to provide its comprehensive range of specialized pediatric care, labor & delivery, post partum care, the regional perinatal center for high-risk pregnancies and a women’s health center providing prenatal and gynecological care as well as a family resource center.
Additionally, a women’s pavilion will house labor & delivery, post partum care, the regional perinatal center for high-risk pregnancies and a women’s health center providing prenatal and gynecological care. It is scheduled to be completed by early 2016.
