Updated: 11/10/2011

Kaleida Health officially opens its new emergency department to the public, the first step in the consolidation of Buffalo General and Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospitals.

The new emergency department is located on the ground floor of Kaleida Health’s heart and vascular institute on North Street near Ellicott, which is now under construction on the emerging Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus

With 53 exam rooms in 37,400 square feet (one full acre) of new space, the emergency department is designed to handle 64,000 patient visits per year.  It has dedicated diagnostic services with specialized support for Kaleida Health’s accredited and award winning cardiac, stroke and vascular programs, which are now located at Buffalo General and Millard Fillmore Gates Circle hospitals.

The new emergency department also includes two dedicated, state-of-the-art diagnostic X-ray machines and adjacency to Buffalo General’s new imaging department CT scan technology.

There are computerized tracking boards of patient status for the most efficient care delivery, dedicated space for emergency mental health patients, a trained greeter to welcome, direct and update patients and families plus flat screen televisions in every room.
