Western New York Radiology Associates - “From challenged to champion”

Released: 10/25/2005
The healthcare landscape in WNY has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past few years, much of it not positive, resulting in consolidations, closing and crisis.  However, WNY Radiology Associates have changed that landscape and become champions of good healthcare.

In 2002, Cynthia Ambres, then Chief Medical Officer at Kaleida Health, joined forces with local business man Chuck Lannon and well-known radiologist Dr. Michael Silber and developed and implemented a plan of action that significantly improved the quality of medical imaging services at the five major hospitals in the Kaleida Health system:  Buffalo General, Women and Children’s Hospital, Millard Fillmore Gates Circle, Millard Fillmore Suburban and DeGraff Memorial Hospitals.

From March to December 2002, the plan was completed which included Northowns Imaging with its three outpatients locations across the community.  Identifying and recruiting physicians of the highest standing was a high priority and in four short months, Dr. Silber and Mr. Lannon successfully recruited 20 high-caliber, board certified physicians from across the county to be part of this multi-site, high tech imaging group.  Six of the original radiologists who were recruited became the core founders of WNY Radiology Associates, including Dr. Silber, who is currently Chief of Radiology at Millard Suburban and Dr. Kenneth Pearson who serves as CEO of the practice.

In 2004, Kaleida Health instituted state of the art computerized imaging (PACS) which allows physicians to digitally store diagnostic images and email reports to physicians in the area or around the world.  The Kaleida Health imaging digital database can be accessed through any Internet portal for viewing 24/7.

WNY Radiology employs the only two fellowship trained, musculoskeletal radiologists in the area and have five neuroradiologists, among others.  Their newest addition is a fellowship-trained radiologist specializing in cardiac imaging.  The practice has assumed the training of residents at UB Medical School and in seven months has improved UB’s ranking from being in the bottom five in terms of passing into the national average of 80%.

WNY Radiology, in conjunction with Kaleida Health, combines cutting edge technology with radiologists who have unsurpassed credentials, in order to provide WNY with quality, competency and care.
