As part of the Finance Department’s restructuring, Barb Losi was recently promoted to Vice President  & Chief Administrative Officer where she will oversee the system-wide functions of Patient Access, Health Information, Clinical Documentation & Case Management, Operations IS Training Team, and the Transfer Center.  As she transitions into the new position, on November 1, 2009 Jon Swiatkowski, Vice President for Finance will have his responsibilities expanded over much of the revenue cycle operations, including financial clearance, patient billing, revenue and contract management, as well as revenue audit and recovery.  Jon will continue to report to Joe Kessler, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer.

According to Kessler, “Jon has been with the organization for more than eight years and this move represents the next step in completing his migration over all aspects of the financial spectrum.  He has served in many capacities and with much success.”

To complement the executive leadership changes, Kaleida Health is pleased to announce the following promotions that will also become effective November 1, 2009.  These positions will report to Jon Swiatkowski.

Kathy Tomasulo has been promoted to the position of Director, Revenue Cycle Operations.  In her expanded role, Kathy is responsible for the daily operations of Corporate Patient Financial Services, Financial Counseling and Financial Clearance Operations at Larkin.  She joined Kaleida in 1998 and has over 25 years experience in healthcare finance and customer service.

Kathy has been instrumental in achieving outstanding performance indicators in Patient Financial Services, with record cash collections and industry low days in accounts receivable.  Kathy and her team will continue to drive performance excellence in Revenue Cycle and outstanding financial counseling services to our patients and the community.

Melvin Dyster has been promoted to the position of Director, Revenue and Contract Management.  In this expanded role, Mel, in addition to continuing to oversee the day-to- day system revenue analysis, reimbursement analysis, and strategic revenue and reimbursement planning activities, will be responsible for directing the system’s third-party contract management functions.

Mel has a tremendous amount of healthcare finance expertise and serves as an integral part of the Kaleida Health management team.  He has played a significant role in the financial successes of Kaleida Health since his arrival here in 1997.

“These promotions reflect the outstanding abilities and previous success of both Kathy and Mel,” said Kessler.  “I am personally looking forward to a close working relationship with these key individuals.”
