Stroke Rehab

Kaleida Health’s medical rehabilitation units at Buffalo General and DeGraff Memorial Hospitals have received a specialty CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation in stroke rehabilitation. These are the only two facilities to receive this accreditation in the eight counties of Western New York.

The program provides comprehensive tools that will assist survivors in their transition to home after leaving the rehabilitation setting. Throughout their stay on the inpatient unit, a patient and their caregivers receive education on: prevention of recurrent stroke, the physical, emotional, and social effects of stroke, coping skills, training in adaptive equipment, if needed, and are linked with numerous resources in the community that they can access once discharged. Kaleida Health also offers a stroke support group each month to further assist in dealing with the impacts that a stroke can have on one’s life.

In order to receive this designation, Kaleida Health had to demonstrate its excellence and commitment to quality. Kaleida’s rehabilitation team has remained competitive with leaders throughout the nation for improvement made during rehabilitation and discharges to the community. Refer to the link on the left compare our programs to others for annual performance in stroke rehabilitation.
