Robotic Surgery

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery, or laparoscopic surgery.  Minimally invasive surgery techniques allow a surgeon to make a few tiny incisions that provide access to most areas of the body.  Utilizing tools that contain a video camera and thin instruments, the surgeon performs the procedure through the tiny incisions.  Robotic surgery simply allows the surgeon to use an advanced set of tools to perform the minimally invasive procedure.  These tools allow a surgeon to perform techniques that are beyond the capabilities of the human hand.

Robotic surgery provides a surgeon:

  • greater precision
  • more flexibility and control
  • A magnified, 3-D view of the area requiring surgery including the intricate blood vessels and nerves within the operative field.
