The Emergency Department at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital provides a full range of emergency medical services to people of all ages from Erie and Niagara counties. The department features all private patient rooms and additional trauma rooms, a more spacious and comfortable waiting room, and new, state-of-the-art technology.
The Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital Emergency Department (ED) Offers:
- Board certified emergency medicine physicians and specially trained nurses who provide comprehensive care to more than 40,000 patients of all ages each year.
- Fast Track - an area within the ED between the hours of 1 p.m. and 1 a.m. where patients with less severe injuries and illnesses are treated. Fast track helps reduce the congestion within the ED at peak times.
- The emergency medicine staff, whose physicians are also trained in pediatrics, provide the highest quality of care in a professional, compassionate and respectful manner.
- Several Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners who are specially trained in forensic examination of sexual assault victims and have passed the rigorous certification exam.

Accredited Chest Pain Center
If you experience chest pain, acting quickly is vital to ensuring the best possible outcome. Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is proud to be an accredited chest pain center from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, providing a comprehensive and efficient evaluation of patients experiencing chest pain. The center utilizes a number of resources designed for patient safety, rapid diagnosis and cost effectiveness.
The Chest Pain Center at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Key areas in which a Chest Pain Center must demonstrate expertise include:
- Integrating the Emergency Department with the local emergency medical system
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly
- Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
- Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures

Millard Fillmore Suburban has taken the next step in emergency preparedness by providing a dedicated decontamination room adjacent to the emergency room.
This state-of-the-art decontamination room has multiple areas to accommodate a large number of people. It can also accommodate non-ambulatory patients on stretchers. In the event of a large incident the facility has a large inflatable decontamination tent that could assist hundreds of people if necessary.
Why is this important? If exposed to hazardous materials:
- Individuals will need to remove and package all clothing due to potential exposure.
- Be decontaminated via showering.
- Be free of the hazardous agent prior to treatment in the ED.
*All contaminated waste water from the decontamination room is collected in a separate dedicated tank.
Decontamination can be used for any hazardous material exposure that leaves a substance on the victim. Some common examples are chlorine, pesticides and oils.
- Chlorine -the most common household and industrial cleaner in the world. If a person gets this on their skin, it can cause burns and serious respiratory distress if inhaled.
- Pesticides- commonly used in the agricultural industry as well as around homes. In low doses, it can be a skin/eye irritant, it could affect a person's nervous system at high doses and some are considered carcinogenic.
- Oil, including gasoline, is the most common hazardous material in the world. Oil can also be a skin irritant and very harmful if ingested.
More complex contaminants include nerve agents or cyanide exposure.
