Comprehensive Vascular Wound Care
Comprehensive wound care includes the assessment and treatment of sores on the legs or feet. These sores may be related to lack of blood flow (Peripheral Artery Disease), or venous insufficiency (problems with blood flow in the veins). Assessment includes a full physical exam, and usually, additional non-invasive tests such as a duplex or Doppler ultrasound of the legs. Some patients may require surgery or interventional procedures to improve the arterial or venous circulation to the area to permit healing. Wound care also includes regular visits with the physician with application of topical dressings to treat the wounds. It may also include skin grafts.
