The cardiac rehabilitation program at Kaleida Health is designed to restore optimal health to heart patients after they have suffered a heart attack, heart surgery, stable angina or some other cardiac event. This medically supervised program helps heart patients recover quickly and improve their overall physical and mental functioning. The goal is to reduce the risk of another cardiac event or to keep an already present heart condition from getting worse.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of illness and death for both men and women in the United States, which makes the role of cardiac rehabilitation in the prevention and treatment of this deadly disease extremely important.
At Kaleida Health, heart patients benefit from a multi-disciplinary team of heart experts and a continuum of heart care that provides a seamless transition from admission and acute/subacute care to independent, outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Patients also benefit from educational opportunities for smoking cessation and preventative maintenance. Education regarding healthy lifestyle changes is ongoing throughout the length of the patients rehabilitation, which typically includes three stages.
Phase III: Exercise maintenance program for long-term modification of cardiac risk factors.
