Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award Overview

The Women & Children's Hospital Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award program began in November 2009, as a way for members on the hospitals Family Advisory Council to recognize and reward staff of WCHOB.

The Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award recognizes hospital employees whose actions, advocacy, and attitudes promote and support Patient and Family Centered Care. They put a "FACE" on the core concepts, values, and philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award Criteria

Partnership with families is the foundation of Patients and Family Centered Care. The Women & Children's Hospital Family Advisory Council wants to honor staff that work together, build partnerships, and cross departments to deliver the very best experience and quality of care for our patients and families.

The Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award can be given to any Women & Children's Hospital employee.

Nominations

The standard used for choosing a winner follows Patient and Family Centered Care's core concepts:
Dignity and Respect – Listens to patients and families and honors their choices and family perspective.
Information sharing – Communicates openly and honestly; shares information with patients and families in a timely and complete manner so that they may effectively participate in care and decision making.
Collaboration – Includes patients and families in education and care delivery.
Participation – Patients and families are encouraged and supported in participating in care, and in making decisions at the level they choose.

The essence of the Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award will include the following guidelines:

  1. Observation - what the staff does, how the staff acts toward others
  2. Value - the appreciation of the employees' service behaviors
  3. Outcome - the importance or impact of the employee's words and actions
  4. Experience - the emotions shared

The Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award recognizes Women & Children's Hospital Employees whose actions, advocacy and attitudes promote and support Family Centered Care.  They put a "FACE" on the core concepts, values, and philosophy of Family Centered Care. 

The Family Advisory Council for Excellence Award will be presented monthly to an employee of the hospital.  Nominations can be made by any employee, consumer, or visitor to the hospital.  All nominations should be submitted to the Family Advisory Council for consideration and review.  Final selections will be made by members of the Family Advisory Council in consultation with the Family Centered Care Coordinator.
