New 3D Digital Tomosynthesis Mammography

A mammogram is a safe, low-dose X-ray procedure that images the internal tissues of the breast. It can reveal areas too small or deep to feel which may or may not require further investigation. A computer is also used to double-read the images to help detect breast cancer at its earliest stages.

The 3D tomosynthesis mammogram consists of multiple breast images taken in just seconds to produce a 3D image. The doctor looks through the tissue one millimeter at a time seeing great detail inside the breast to help detect breast cancer at its earliest stages. Digital images are easily stored and transferred electronically, eliminating the dependency on one set of original films, which can be misfiled or lost in transit.

Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital is a Pink Ribbon Facility, one of an elite group of healthcare facilities around the country providing this revolutionary advanced treatment for breast screening.

Stereotactic or prone breast biopsy is also available.

Day, evening and Saturday hours are available.

Computerized Tomography (CT)

MRI Computerized tomography or CT refers to the manner the X-ray exam is performed. The image is enhanced by a computer and provides a three-dimensional view referred to as a "slice" of a particular part of the body.

**320 Slice CT Scanner Now Available**

What is a 320 slice CT  scanner?

  • The most powerful CT scanner available
  • Captures dynamic processes such as blood flow and organ function of the heart, brain, joints and other parts of the body in real-time three-dimensional (3D) clarity.
  • Produces real time 3-D images of the body’s organs in less than a heartbeat, dramatically shortening the diagnosis of cardiac conditions, stroke, cancers and other anomalies.

Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital now offers Coronary CT Angiograms (CTA) for outpatients. Patients can schedule a CTA by calling (716) 568-6419.

Day, evening and Saturday hours are available.

**CT and MRI are currently available to Canadian patients.**

Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is used to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions and diseases by inserting small catheters or wires while using CTs, MRIs or ultrasound to visualize the progress of those catheters and wires within the body. A series of procedures can be performed that can be viewed using those imaging techniques. Many times Interventional Radiology can offer an alternative to surgery. Appointments are available through an MD’s referral.

MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging is a safe and painless test that produces very clear cross-sectional or three-dimensional images of the body’s tissues, even through bone and other obstructions. Because of its safety and clarity, the MRI is a valuable tool that greatly assists physicians in the diagnosis of a wide range of medical conditions, including cardiac disease, brain disorders, stroke, vascular disease, joint disorders and abdominal conditions.

MRI is available Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

**CT and MRI are currently available to Canadian patients.**

Nuclear Medicine

Uses an assortment of radioactive isotopes and scanning equipment to help diagnose a variety of conditions. Some conditions diagnosed by nuclear medicine are

  • thyroid cancer
  • bone metastasis
  • blood infections
  • pulmonary embolisms
  • gastroparesis
  • cardiac disease

Scans are performed on various organs such as gall batter, liver, thyroid, kidneys, lungs, stomach and heart in a comfortable setting as an outpatient and reports are sent to your physician within 48hrs and often the next day.

Hours of operation are from 7am to 4pm Monday thru Friday. Call 568-6430 to schedule an appointment.

***The Nuclear Medicine lab at Millard Suburban is accreditated by the Intersocietal Accreditation of Commission (IAC), an agency who develops and reviews compliance with high quality standards of patient care in the field of Nuclear Medicine.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is the use of sound waves to obtain medical images of various organs and tissues in the body. It is a painless and safe procedure. Day and evening appointments are available.
